Introduction

When I became part of the Wimette family, one of the many obvious and wonderful things that I took note of was that Sharon’s table was always set with at least one dish from Nana or Grandma.  “Grandma always had...at Thanksgiving,” or “This is Grandma’s cookie recipe,” or many other Grandma did it this way or that phases were to be heard in the Wimette household.  These comments found a very special place with me because my Grandma, “Mamal,” was also a wonderful cook, a wonderful southern cook.  I have many warm and fond memories of her countless special dishes, but what I don’t have are the recipes for those special dishes.  Mamal never wrote her recipes down, and after she passed on we were left with only the memories of those wonderful creations that once were our mainstay.

So, this brings us to now, and the question of why someone would decide to sit down and put the family recipe boxes into a book form to share with the whole family?  That’s exactly why...because there exists family recipes that have been preserved through the generations, and those deserve to continue to be served at our family tables for many years to come.  We are very fortunate that Nana and Grandma wrote their recipes down, and that these eventually were passed on to Sharon.  Because of this, we don’t have to simply remember the wonderful dishes from days gone by; we will be able to serve them to our own children, and them to theirs....

Now, finally, here it is...Recipes from Grandma’s Kitchen, containing four generations of family recipes.  Oh what an endeavor this book came to be, one that I know is worth all of the many hours spent to produce it in it’s now final form.  Hopefully this collection will enable us all to keep alive the family recipes, just as Nana, Grandma, and Sharon have done for us.
